בֵית שַׁמַּאי אוֹמְרִים, לֹא יִמָּנָה יִשְׂרָאֵל עִם הַכֹּהֵן עַל הַבְּכוֹר. בֵּית הִלֵּל מַתִּירִין, וַאֲפִלּוּ נָכְרִי. בְּכוֹר שֶׁאֲחָזוֹ דָם, אֲפִלּוּ הוּא מֵת, אֵין מַקִּיזִין לוֹ דָם, דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי יְהוּדָה. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים, יַקִּיז, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא יַעֲשֶׂה בוֹ מוּם. וְאִם עָשָׂה בוֹ מוּם, הֲרֵי זֶה לֹא יִשָּׁחֵט עָלָיו. רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אוֹמֵר יַקִּיז, אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁהוּא עוֹשֶׂה בוֹ מוּם:

Beit Shammai afferma che un israelita non dovrebbe unirsi a un prete [nel mangiare un squalificato] primogenito. Beit Hillel lo consente anche per un non ebreo. Se un primogenito viene catturato dal sangue [in eccesso], non lasciamo che il suo sangue anche se morirà, secondo il rabbino Yehudah. I saggi dicono: si può lasciare il suo sangue, ma non si può fare un difetto. Se uno ha fatto un difetto, non può massacrarlo su quella [base]. Il rabbino Shim'on dice: si dovrebbe lasciare il suo sangue anche se farà un difetto.
